Onze Man in Kazachstan plot
The young Dutch farmer Herbert Bos leaves for Kazakhstan. In the vast steppes lies the Sovkhoz Koksoenski, a former place of exile. Here he tries to bring in a record harvest of potatoes with the help of Dutch seed potatoes and modern technology. He is warmly welcomed, but his arrival leads to a profound cultural confrontation with the population. His businesslike Western mentality is opposed by the disillusioned Kazakhs who feel cheated by the communist regime. The film gives an image of the hard life in the countryside after the collapse of the communist system.
