Of the North plot
Industrialization, cultural globalization and global warming have wreaked havoc in few places in the world as far as the Arctic. Rather than travel to the polar regions of North America, Canadian mash-up artist Dominic Gagnon mines the treasures of the World Wide Web from his computer screen: his film is a montage of videos posted by residents, oil rig workers and tourists. Their self-representation sometimes takes on shameless forms: Gagnon mixes domestic scenes and recordings of snow expeditions with images of morbid drunkenness, playing with children, animal abuse and vulgar exhibitionism. Traditional throat singers, local hip-hop and an inuktitut version of Let It Be fill the soundtrack.
