Miko Revereza has been living illegally in the US for 20 years. He takes the Amtrak train from Los Angeles to New York during a critical period of hostility towards migrants in the country he has called home for years. The journey is daring, perhaps reckless, but urgent and necessary. Both his mother's conversations and his own thoughts reveal the painful struggles of Miko's family since they decided to leave the Philippines when he was a child. The view of the 'land of freedom' is constantly obstructed from the train by smeared windows and electricity poles that disappear in and out of view.
