Nathan - Free as a Bird plot

When 44-year-old Nathan Verhelst had himself euthanized in September 2013, his death became world news. The Fleming did not have a life-threatening illness, but he did struggle with unbearable and hopeless suffering after a miserable life and a series of failed sex reassignment operations. Nathan felt like a freak and could not find happiness either as a man or as a woman. And even his loyal friends couldn't change his mind. So they supported him until he breathed his last.
