The mysterious 17th-century painter and freethinker Johannes Torrentius was rich, famous and infamous. A libertine who ridiculed the faith, tortured and convicted of heresy, released thanks to the intercession of the Royal Household and the English king. Only one of his works has survived; a mysterious masterpiece that was used for years as a lid on a barrel of raisins. The filmmaker re-examines the case, but the mystery only seems to get bigger. And how tolerant was the Netherlands at that time?
