My Name Is Pauli Murray plot
"You may not know the name, but you live in Pauli's legacy."
Fifteen years before Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat, a decade before the US Supreme Court overturned the "separate but equal" law, Pauli Murray was knee-deep fighting for social justice. A pioneering lawyer, activist, priest and devoted memoir writer, Murray shaped historic lawsuits - and awareness - surrounding race and gender equality. As an African-American youth growing up in the segregated South — who also struggled with broader conceptions of gender identity — Pauli intrinsically understood what it was like to exist outside previously accepted categories and cultural norms.
