My Barefoot Friend: The Story of Shallim and His Old Rickshaw plot
Shallim is one of ten thousand rickshaw owners who carry their living cargo barefoot through the streets of Calcutta. At fifty years old, the tan Shallim is by no means the oldest: his colleague and friend Husein is already seventy-five. South Korean director Seong-Gyou Lee befriended Shallim and literally followed him closely for a long period of time. Through the relentless traffic of the crowded and colorful Calcutta, where trains broke out new fortune seekers every day. Shallim works hard for his family and for his dream of buying a motorized rickshaw so he can earn even more money and eventually buy a house. But the reality is harsh: illnesses in his family make the hard-earned money disappear like snow in the sun.
