Due to the strict (even by American standards) laws in Tennessee, she was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 51 years for first-degree murder. This documentary follows the lengthy legal battle of Brown's lawyers to secure leniency based on her past history, her mental health at the time of the incident, and her personal growth since her conviction. This solid true crime documentary with a hopeful ending also distinguishes itself by its almost entirely use of original footage instead of newsreel footage.
