On February 17, 2014 at 11:04 a.m., Essex, England, received a disturbing phone call. A man says he stabbed someone. It's the sad end to a horrific grooming story, digital child locks that have lasted for months. The victim is fourteen-year-old Breck Bednar. The perpetrator, then eighteen-year-old Lewis Daynes, lured him to his apartment. He tortured and abused him. Finally he stabbed him to death. The two had gotten to know each other through an online video game. For months, the perpetrator instilled the confidence of his victim, confidence that would ultimately prove fatal to him.
