Mille Soleils plot
Portrait of Magaye Niang, who in 1973 played the lead role in the African classic Touki Bouki by Djibil Diop Mambéty. In Mille soleils, he visits a special screening of that film about a couple eager to emigrate to France from Senegal. In the end, the man stays behind in his homeland, just like Niang himself did. Forty years later he is still a cow farmer and we see him walking through Dakar grumpy and drunk. Some boys who are present at the screening of Touki Bouki do not believe him when he says that he is the actor who plays the male role.
