Maurice Pialat, l'Amour Existe... plot

A 'self-portrait' of Maurice Pialat (1925-2003), an outsider in French cinema. His vision and approach are controversial, but he knows how to bring his actors to stunning results. He is like a child: he makes no compromises and remains vulnerable and cruel at the same time. The documentary combines a multitude of material: television interviews; photos from Pialat's gloomy childhood; paintings from the time of the art academy; scenes from his own films and from films that have been of crucial importance to him (of Renoir, Ozu and the Lumière brothers).
