Material plot
Material is a personal testimony of a not so distant past. Thomas Heise portrays his Berlin then and now by means of a montage of film images from the last 20 years. His cinematographic notes include scenes from Fritz Marquerdt's Müller adaptation 'Germania Tod in Berlin', images of a squatted building being evacuated, mass demonstrations on Alexanderplatz, sessions of the newly elected People's Parliament (the former GDR parliament), far-right young people disrupt the film screening, the dismantling of the Palast der Republik and so much more. Material is a personal look at the eventful history of what was once East Germany.
