Mädchen Können Kein Fußball Spielen plot

At a time when women were excluded from football in Germany, a group of determined players stood up to an entrenched system. Filmmaker Torsten Körner follows the path of these pioneering women who remained loyal to their sport despite an official ban by the DFB. Due to perceived health risks and moral objections, the association banned women from playing organised football until the 1970s. But the ball kept rolling on fields, in makeshift competitions, far from public recognition. The film follows the long road to the first official international match in 1982 and sheds light on the structural barriers that women had to overcome in sport and in society.
