Lotus Ferry plot
Lotus Ferry is a relatively small and busy residential area in Shanghai. With moving and scanning camerawork, the documentary explores this thoroughly Chinese neighborhood, which in essence is not that much different from similar neighborhoods in other countries. Small shopkeepers try to keep their heads above water and have displayed their wares on the street. Residents cook, keep an eye on their children and converse. The sounds of the city merge into a lively whole. Director Zhou Hongbo presents Lotus Ferry as a beehive full of never-ending activity, singing about the small worries and pleasures of everyday life.
