Little Groningen plot
In 1950, seven families from the city of Groningen emigrated together to Tasmania. They settled in the village of Kingston south of the capital Hobart and started a construction company. The company's success initiated a chain migration. More and more Dutch people (especially from the northern provinces) followed the example of the first group of immigrants. They founded their own church community and their own school. The Dutch community in Kingston grew into one of the largest concentrations of Dutch immigrants in Australia. The first Groningen immigrants aspired to be fully integrated into Australian society. In the documentary we see how two families, descended from this first group of immigrants, have shaped this ideal.
