Listen..! plot

There are dozens of foreign local radio stations in Amsterdam that broadcast from the city's studios. The broadcasts are in the language of the makers, Chinese, Surinamese, Ghanaian or Spanish. Anyone can buy airtime and use the studio facilities for a few euros per hour. Everything is allowed, except advertising or discrimination. The program makers are not professional. Many are here illegally or have other work besides making radio. They don't give objective information, don't even try, but speak or sing to their compatriots, express their opinion and have animated discussions with the 'callers'. The broadcasts provide a revealing and surprising picture of the emotions and ideas that live in the immigrant communities. An image from within. How do they survive in a foreign country, how do they maintain their own identity and how do they conquer a place in society. How do they deal with homesickness and left-behind family and how is it with love. 'Listen!' is a film about the unknown world that is hidden behind the Amsterdam ether.
