Liever Dood Dan Vermist plot

During the Second World War, a large number of aircraft crashed on Dutch territory. Countless aircraft, in many cases with crew members, have not been recovered to this day. Filmmaker Gisèla Mallant follows the Salvage Service of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. Relatives of American and British soldiers who gave their lives for the liberation of Europe want their relatives to have a real grave. An attempt is made to lift an English plane in the Frisian Wartena. Is the missing tail gunner still on board? And why do some municipalities and not others proceed to salvage these aircraft and military personnel?
