"The Subtle Tragedy of War"

Eight short videos, shot during the Israeli-led struggle against Lebanon in July 2006, form a ledger showing how ordinary Lebanese coped with everyday life during and shortly afterwards. Fascinating portraits that give a voice to a street sweeper in the deserted Martyrs' Square, residents moved from the south of the city to school buildings, a volunteer rescue worker in the suburbs and a family at an informal memorial service. Far from the bombastic media frenzy, the tragedy of the war is captured with humility and simplicity.
