Lago Gatún plot
Kevin Jerome Everson's most recent feature is a minimalist odyssey that travels the waterway between the two largest oceans in the world. The artist travels the Panama Canal and films an almost abstract journey on black and white 16mm film reels of 10 minutes each, which is modulated in time by the light and darkness of the opening and closing of the locks. The beauty of the landscape, a look at the world trade for which the canal was built, and an immersion in near-total darkness alternate, reminding us that the American engineers of this canal imposed the US segregation laws on the Jamaican workers.
