La Maison de la Rue Arbat plot
The House of the Knights is located at 35 Arbat Street in Moscow. Once the residence of the Russian princess Kozlovskaya, then it was inhabited by eight families for more than half a century. Today the Ministry of Culture is located there. “La Maison de la Rue Arbat” depicts the history of the Moscow house, and with it the history of the country. Central to this is the function of the house as a commune, as a common place of residence according to the communist ideal. A house where people lived together, cooked together; a house where a Jewish man's traitors resided under one roof with his remaining children. Interviews with former residents are combined with historical newsreel footage of the house, but also with shots from a fictional film by Lenin's comrade-in-arms and Minister of Culture, Lunacharsky.
