La Ciudad de los Fotógrafos plot
In the eighties, during the heyday of dictator Pinochet, an independent movement of photographers arose in the Chilean capital Santiago. They photographed what was not to be seen. This started the turnaround slowly; the starting point are the images of the group of people buried alive, hanging upside down in the mine shaft at Longuér. The photos of the site made Chile aware of what was happening under Pinochet. The Independent Photographers Guild Association - AFI in Spanish - was founded. The group consisted partly of professional photographers, partly of amateurs who simply owned a camera. The father of filmmaker Sebastián Moreno was one of them.
