Kinky Friedman: Proud to Be an Asshole from El Paso plot

Kinky Friedman is a Jewish, Texas country singer, founder of The Texas Jewboys and author of fourteen hilarious detective stories about Kinky Friedman, the Jewish, Texas country singer-cum-detective. Friedman caused a furore - and caused bad blood - with controversial songs such as 'Ride 'em Jewboy' (the first country song about the Holocaust). Simone de Vries made a portrait of this idiosyncratic cult hero, including in his dilapidated caravan, where his success as a writer began. In addition to Friedman, some of his admirers speak, including Lyle Lovett, country legend Willie Nelson (who stars in one of his novels), and Bill Clinton, who tells how Friedman once offered him one of his inseparable Cuban cigars. Clinton could not accept the cigar - because of the boycott - to which Friedman said: "Don't think of it as supporting their economy, but as burning their fields."
