In the fall of 1959, during the height of the Cold War, Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev paid a visit to nemesis the United States. With his journey through America he launched a large-scale charm offensive, in order to smooth out the folds and to stop the arms race between the two superpowers. Accompanied by his family and entourage, he visited the cities of Washington, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Pittsburgh during this true road show. Khrushchev recorded all his experiences and reservations on a tape recorder.
