Kasongo (im)Materiel plot

This documentary explores the forgotten history of the Swahili Arabs in DR Congo. Their trajectory from oppressors to oppressed, along with the local adoption of their culture and language, reflect the tensions and ambivalence of history and heritage. Interweaving excavation scenes with archival footage and contemporary footage, an archaeologist and a photographer explore the affective impact of what persists from the past to the present.
