Kashima Paradise plot

Kashima Paradise shows how contemporary Japanese society is caught between the many traditions and the achievements of modern times. To continue to count as one of the leading industrialized countries, huge petrochemical or steel industries must be built on farmland. The farmers receive little compensation for giving up their land and are forced by the circumstances to work on construction sites for new factories. Despite protests against the opening of yet another airport or industrial estate, nothing can stop 'progress'.
