Jugando con los Pajaros plot

They are so close to the promised land, and yet it is so out of reach for most Mexicans: America. He used to swim across the river whenever he wanted to work in the US for a few years, recalls the elderly Ezequiel. That is no longer so easy. Crazed human traffickers extort astronomical amounts for the great crossing. And those on the other side of the border don't dare go back to visit their families for fear of US immigration. Now the land he inherited with all that hard work is impoverishing and where there has been no rain for eleven months. Now livestock is starving, unemployment is soaring and criminal gangs are increasingly violent. What remains is to wait. To rain, to work, to safety. In better times.
