Jenseits des Sichtbaren - Hilma af Klint plot
The first abstract artist was a woman: the Swedish Hilma af Klint (1862-1944). Years before Vasily Kandinsky started his abstract work, from 1906 she made paintings with abstract, often geometric representations, in which she was guided by her mystical beliefs; her brushstrokes were directed by higher spiritual forces. But she and her work have been all but forgotten. How could a pioneer like her have gone unnoticed? Why is her work not for sale anywhere, why is her work not displayed in modern art museums? The German filmmaker Halina Dyrschka tries to find the answers to these questions in this documentary.
