Jef van der Heijden - Fietser naar de Maan plot

There was hardly any film industry in the Netherlands when the controversial filmmaker and writer Jef van der Heijden (1926) already made feature films with a minimum of resources. After his collaboration with filmmaker Bert Haanstra, he turned out to be a director in the 1960s. His film “Unconsecrated Earth” caused such a commotion at the time - he used images of a real funeral in a fictional context - that a screening ban was the result, and Van der Heijden's production company was filed for bankruptcy. Documentary maker Huub van der Put visited the controversial director in Ireland, where Van der Heijden looks back on an eventful life on the basis of his 'archive'. The Second World War, Van der Heijden's unbridled fantasy and the riot that put an end to his feature film career play a major role in this.
