Jan Schoonhoven - Beambte 18977 plot
The legendary artist from Delft, Jan Schoonhoven (1914 - 1994), was compared to Vermeer and Mondriaan during his lifetime. His mysterious white reliefs made of cardboard and papier mache are now auctioned for tons at Sotheby's and Christie's. Jan Schoonhoven himself lived as a sober and modest PTT official. During the research, the filmmakers discover that one of Jan Schoonhoven's most important works has disappeared from the post office in Delft. In the film, his friend, artist Jan Henderikse, goes in search of this long-lost work. Gradually, a picture emerges of Schoonhoven's life, his enigmatic personality and the meaning of his work.
