In Sarmatien plot
The land between the Vistula, the Volga, the Baltic and the Black Sea was called Sarmatia in ancient times. The German documentary maker Volker Koepp toured the territory where the countries of Moldova, Belarus, Lithuania and Ukraine are now located. It follows the course of the major rivers up to the Curonian Lagoon on the Baltic Sea and shows the image of an area that has virtually disappeared from our present consciousness. He meets protagonists from earlier films and follows the poems of the German poet Johannes Bobrowski, who comes from Sarmatia.
