In Dienst van de Vrede plot
In 1979, the Netherlands was asked to participate in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, also known as UNIFIL. During the decision-making process, many political arguments were raised in favor of participating. The fear of damage to the Netherlands' image if they rejected the request was more important than the justification for deploying mostly conscripts in a war zone. This resulted in a large group of UNIFIL veterans struggling with PTSD. They often only discover this later in life. The Dutch soldiers who served at the time look back on the mission.
