Documentary reconstructing the life of the legendary artist Maya Deren. Born in Kiev in 1917, she became a central figure in the American avant-garde movement in the 1940s and 1950s. She is most known for her pioneering work in experimental film and as a voodoo adherent. She died in New York at age 44. The documentary searches for the person Maya Deren and zooms in on her greatest life themes: film art, choreography, dance, rituals, voodoo. Following in the footsteps of this important woman who pioneered in the twentieth century, the film visits the places and people who played a role in her life to paint the picture of a modern myth.
