Il Mistero di Lovecraft - Road to L. plot

1997: Andrea Roberti, a folklore student investigates the possible connection between HP Lovecraft's horror literature and the dark folktales of the Po Delta, a mysterious and remote part of northern Italy. A few years later, a group of filmmakers finds a manuscript in Montecatini, Italy, that may have belonged to the American writer. The diary, dated 1926, describes travels in Italy through the Po Delta in search of inspiration in the form of local folktales. If the manuscript really belonged to Lovecraft, it would be an extraordinary discovery. And then they find out that Andrea Roberti disappeared in mysterious circumstances a few years earlier. But as they investigate further, they learn that many more strange and disturbing things have happened in the area.
