On August 4, 2006, the American internet provider AOL mistakenly put the searches of 350,000 Americans online for a few days. Before the data was taken down, countless copies of that data went around the world. The filmmakers used the information from AOL subscriber '#711391' and constructed a tragicomic story around this anonymous user. From 'tapeworms' to 'the best ceiling fans', from 'the benefits of chamomile tea' to 'the best nude scenes of 1990', all these words together form a surprisingly rich representation of the world #711391 lived in at the time. Have search engines perhaps replaced the traditional confessional without users realizing it?
