Ten years before Public Enemy and Grandmaster Flash launched the new music genre, the groundbreaking record “Hustlers Convention” by Jalal Nuriddin, considered by many to be the 'Grandfather of Rap', was released. Interviews are interspersed with music fragments in this exploration of the genesis of hip-hop and the crucial role of this almost forgotten album. Due to a rights issue surrounding a musical contribution from Kool & the Gang, the record, which Nuriddin considers his masterpiece, was withdrawn from the market fairly soon after its release. On the street the work took on a life of its own, but recognition for the maker was not forthcoming.
