The Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, known for the iconic print The Great Wave, developed a style entirely his own in vibrant Edo—the former Tokyo. With his colorful ukiyo-e works, he not only managed to surprise his contemporaries but also reached Europe in the 19th century, where his art made a great impression. Artists such as Monet and Van Gogh were inspired by him. This documentary shows how Hokusai, with his innovative view of composition and perspective, had a lasting influence on Western art.
