Michael Dudok de Wit has been asked by the well-known Japanese animation studio Ghibli to make his first full-length animation film; it is their first international co-production ever. Maarten Schmidt and Thomas Doebele have followed Dudok de Wit and his team for more than two years during this complex creative process. He is a perfectionist and used to making his hand-drawn animation films on his own. For this new and long production, he was assisted by a team of 20 to 30 artists from all over Europe.
