Het Ondergronds Orkest plot
Here, powerful music is not only played and sung, but also told from the heart. The film is a musical journey through a world at war, a journey through the world of exile. Most of the film had to take place underground. In the corridors and moving carriages of the Paris metro we would meet musicians from all over the world. But we never got permission to play in the Metro. That's why we did it secretly and ended up above ground. But even above ground, the underground feeling continues to resound, the feeling of what a metropolis has become in Europe today. Our musicians are strangers: their music, their memories, backgrounds, language and stories refer to 'elsewhere'. Something went wrong with them, long or recently, or something is still wrong. A war, a military coup, an ideology that has been overthrown, too much inflation, poverty or hunger. In this film we encounter an important piece of world history of the last 20 years. A history of exile, resistance, loneliness and hope.
