Het Is Gezien plot
Artists in 'It is Seen' read and discuss Gerard Reve's defense fifty years ago against a charge of 'defamatory blasphemy'. Based on their own experiences, they investigate the current state of the freedom of art in the Netherlands. In a virtuoso plea for the artist's freedom, Reve defended himself in court and was eventually acquitted. Now, fifty years later, seven writers and artists read this text in the courtroom where the trial took place, and they talk about the freedom and lack of freedom of their own art, in today's Netherlands.
