In the film Dorrestijn tells candidly about his sad childhood and the influence it had on him. That candor is not even that special, because from the many songs he wrote in the documentary, you can deduce that he has always only confided the bitter truth to his audience. Now that he has gotten a bit older, he seems to be getting into calmer waters. He doesn't need to chase the girls anymore and birdwatching gives him peace of mind in his gloom. For him, this puts the events of his childhood, his overcome alcoholism and his failed relationships into a different perspective. So he can take it again. It even makes him a little happy every now and then.
