The seventies. A quest for spiritual and spiritual freedom. In England, young Hugh Milne hears the voice of the spiritual teacher Bhagwan Shree on a tape and travels to India in search of himself. Sheela Patel, a young Indian woman, is brought to the charismatic guru by her father. In his community in Poona, Bhagwan urges his followers to meditate and practice tantric sex to attain a higher level of consciousness. Hugh guards the guru as a bodyguard, Sheela becomes his secretary and later even the powerful boss of Bhagwan's model community in the Oregon mountains.
