Golub: Late Works Are the Catastrophes plot

American painter Leon Golub was born in 1922 in Chicago, Illinois. Seeing Picasso's Guernica prompted him to study art history at the University of Chicago. Leon Golub caused a stir in the 1950s, when abstract expressionism was the dominant style, with his figurative paintings of struggling nudes, based on Greek and Roman sculpture. In the following years, he began to incorporate topical subjects in his paintings. He used press photos for this, bringing the horrors of the Vietnam War to galleries and museums.
