Gerrit Krol: De Zoon van de Levende Stad plot

Jesus Christ said he was "the son of the living God." The search for that God is diligent, but the living city is Groningen and Gerrit Krol can call himself the rightful son of that. 'The writer is a vain,' Krol quotes himself, 'and if he also talks about himself, it is a vain squared.' Apparently that is not so bad with Krol. As Shell's 'scientific calculator', he traveled halfway around the world, which he considers a necessary therapy to get rid of his provincial prejudices. Krol, who has been a full-time writer for some years now, sees the many literary prizes awarded to him as a peripheral phenomenon. While working in Venice on a new book with his flamboyant wife Janna, he discusses his life and work. 'My way of writing is a bit different,' says Krol. 'I write more like a filmmaker films.'
