Future Me plot

"In fiction I dare to be real"

In Future Me, filmmaker Vincent Boy Kars makes himself the pawn of his own film and is confronted with deep-seated fears and desires. Can he free himself from his past and become the person he wants to be in the future? To what extent is it possible to become a free person, despite the story you carry with you?

Vincent Boy Kars blurs the line between actor and director in this strange and daring combination of documentary and drama. He is interviewed about his family and the relationship with his girlfriend Eva and plays himself in a role play (played on a bare stage with actors Damaris de Jong, Leopold Witte and Saskia Temmink) in scenes directed by someone else. Sometimes Kars takes over and has Martijn Lakemeir play the role of Vincent. Partly on stage, but also in a number of dramatized scenes. Ambitious and certainly innovative, but the problem is sharply expressed in a dramatized scene in which Vincent [Martijn Lakemeier] sits on a laptop staring at the images in which the real Vincent talks about his neuroses: “Are you already looking at your own self-therapy? to look?" Perhaps he himself has benefited greatly from this self-therapy, but for the viewer the added value of this narcissistic documentary is hard to find.
