"Revolution starts with a voice."
This documentary is based on David Blight's biography of Frederick Douglass. The film tells the story of Douglass from his birth in slavery to his free existence as a speaker and writer who campaigned for the abolition of slavery. He was the son of a black slave. On the plantations where he grew up, he came into contact with the horrific treatment of slaves. In September 1838 he himself escaped slavery. Later he decided to work for the freedom of the blacks.
