Exit plot
According to Article 115 of the Swiss Criminal Code, “anyone who, out of self-interest, induces or aids another person to commit suicide is punishable.” The Swiss volunteer organization EXIT turned this argument around. Because if there is no self-interest involved, you can therefore help someone with a self-willed termination of life. Switzerland is the only country in the world that allows assisted suicide. More than ten thousand members are affiliated to EXIT, ranging in age from 21 to 103 years. Marianne and Denise work as volunteers at EXIT. They believe that every person has the right to die with dignity. They regard the help they offer as the ultimate act of humanity. They build an intimate bond with their patients; they comfort and reassure them. Finally, the time has come when we have to say goodbye. When the deadly barbiturates are poured and the glass is drunk to the bottom.
