Episode of the Sea plot

The daily life of the fishermen from Urk is characterized by a strong connection with the sea and the traditions of the former island. Due to the reclamation of the Noordoostpolder, Urk suddenly became an ordinary village in the last century. The fishermen were supposed to work the land as farmers, but that was not what happened. They found new fishing grounds in the North Sea and managed to build a thriving industry over the years, despite increasing competition and restrictive government measures such as fishing quotas. “Episode of the Sea” is the result of an encounter between two cultures that at first sight have nothing in common: the fishermen from this closed, strictly religious environment and the visual artists who record their lives with a camera and microphone.
