El Edificio de los Chilenos plot
In the late 1970s, many militant Chileans returned to Chile from exile in Europe to help their comrades fight against the ruling Pinochet dictatorship. Macarena Aguiló tells a personal story, set against the background of this history. Using photos, diaries and interviews with those involved, she reconstructs an important period from her youth, which she spent in a residential community in Cuba. This was set up under the name Project Homes by freedom fighters, who were unable to take their children with them for security reasons. Aguiló was raised there by 'social parents', together with about sixty fellow sufferers. Aguiló paints a picture of a close-knit community, in which the ideals of freedom and solidarity initially prevail. But if after a few years it becomes clear that the struggle in Chile is not bringing the hoped-for result, and there is more and more news from Chile about arrests and murders, morale also drops in Cuba.
