Einsteins Nichten plot
During World War II, soldiers of the Wehrmacht are sent to Tuscany to search for Robert Einstein, a cousin and close friend of Albert Einstein. However, as Robert hides from the Nazis in a nearby forest, their search fails and the German soldiers murder Robert's wife Nina and their children Luce and Cici. Albert Einstein's great-nieces Lorenza and Paola, who are adopted by Robert Einstein, are spared because they do not bear the name Einstein. More than 70 years later, the two women are the only witnesses to the facts. Director Friedemann Fromm accompanies both women to the scene of the disaster, where they tell their story.
