Ein Lied für Argyris plot
On June 10, 1944, an SS division carries out a massacre in the Greek village of Distomo. Among the survivors are Argyris, who is less than four years old, and his three sisters. After having spent some years in various orphanages amidst thousands of war orphans, Argyris is given the opportunity to emigrate to Switzerland via the Red Cross. Here Argyris turns out to be an intelligent young man. He becomes a teacher at a gymnasium, he translates Greek poets into German and he works as a development aid in Somalia, Nepal and Indonesia. Argyris also manages to find his three sisters and together with them, 50 years after the massacre, he starts a lawsuit against the German state for recovery, but above all for recognition of guilt. The various German courts come up with a negative verdict every time, making Argyris feel once again a helpless victim. The case will come before the European Court of Human Rights in 2006, the last chance for recognition for the victims of Distomo after more than sixty years.
